    Do you see her as a role model for young girls? A lot of the Star Wars universe is populated by strong men, but she’s a tough woman

    “Oh absolutely, and she didn’t get there by taking any short cuts either. She’s very smart, she worked hard in the Jedi temple in her studies, and she’s a teeny tiny little thing of an alien, but she uses her body to the best of her ability in that she may be small but she’s very catlike and agile. I think what she teaches girls is that if you put your mind to something then you can achieve it. Use your strengths, study hard, stay physically fit and who knows? The sky’s the limit really. The thing that I like with Ahsoka, she’s definitely been inspirational to girls; I would have liked Ahsoka growing up.” {x}

    […]

    Eckstein credits Ahsoka for attracting more young, female fans to Star Wars. “This is the first Jedi that’s been focused on as a lead character that’s a girl. There’s female Jedi all over the movies, but they’re never put in a prominent, lead role position. […] It’s something I’m really excited about, and I wish I had the character of Ahsoka to play when I was a girl.” {x}

    […]

    “My husband, David Eckstein, played Major League Baseball for 10 seasons, and during that time I probably went to about 1,000 baseball games. I live the life of a sci-fi loving fangirl and also the life of a passionate sports fan. Almost every time I tell someone outside of my geeky world about the fact that I go to sci-fi conventions, I am usually met with a rude comment similar to, ‘Do you see a lot of freaks dressed up in costumes?’

    Excuse me!? Why is this freaky? Why is it weird? I cannot even begin to tell you all of the creative ways I’ve seen sports fans dress up at games. I’ve seen guys who body paint their bare chests with their favorite team’s colors, people dressed up as their team’s mascot, lots of face paint, temporary tattoos, crazy hats, wild color-coordinating outfits. Some fans practically look like clowns the way they are decked out head to toe in support of their favorite team.

    So I ask – Please tell me how this is any different than a sci-fi fan showing up at a convention in costume. The difference is that one form of dressing up is widely socially accepted and the other is not. However, both types of fans are passionate about the genre that they love, and they want to express themselves through what they wear.

    I also enjoy dressing up as my favorite characters, and I had the ultimate cosplay experience a couple of months ago. For the first time, I got to dress up as Ahsoka Tano. […] Year after year I have been going to conventions, seeing hundreds of girls dressed up as Ahsoka, and secretly wishing I, too, could someday try on the costume. Well, with the help of my friends, my wish was granted, and I got to dress up as Ahsoka for the day! This was just me, as a fan, having fun!

    All of a sudden, I reverted back to when I was a little girl. I wanted to have a light saber battle and help save the galaxy! I really felt like I was a Jedi. I felt strong, and it was very empowering. Then it hit me: As a little girl, I could only dream about being these fantastical characters and saving the world, but as an adult, I realized I could actually BE a real-life Jedi and do great things.” {x}

    Ashley Eckstein is better than your favorites.

    Ashley is one of my favorite people ever, voice-actors and everyone else included. She is so sweet whenever I talk to her at cons <3 Like, legit one of the kindest, friendliest people I have ever met ;___; I want to just hang out at her booth forever, but I feel awkward and just shuffle away after buying my tshirt u_u

    (and she looks damn good cosplaying!!)

    Ashley Eckstein is one of the best things to happen to fandom in the last ten years.  She’s one of the nicest people I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting and when she says that she remembers you from a previous convention, you can tell that she’s being honest and isn’t just putting on a front.  As shown above, she is both passionate and articulate with her defense of everything fandom.  On top of that, Her Universe is helping fill the void of cute geeky shirts and such that are meant for girls.  Although the prices are (understandably) a little high, I am more than happy to continue to buy from the store.

    Basically, I can’t say enough nice things about Ashley because she is amazing.

    Ashley is pretty awesome.
